STAR

The Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program, part of California's statewide testing and accountability system, helps measure how well students are learning academic skills. All students in grades two through eleven participate in the STAR Program.

The STAR Program consists of four parts:

California Standards Tests (CST)
The California Standards Tests in English language arts, mathematics, science, and history/social science measure student performance against California's content standards.

California Modified Assessment (CMA)
The California Modified Asessment measures student performance based on content standards.  Students in grades 3-8 who meet eligibility criteria may be tested using the CMA.

California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA)
The California Alternate Performance Assessment for students in grades 2-11 who cannot take part in the general statewide assessment programs.

Standards-Based Test in Spanish (STS)
The Standards-Based Test in Spanish is the spanish language version of the California Standards Tests.  The STS is administered to Spanish-speaking English learners who have been enrolled in U.S. schools for less than 12 months.
