Expressing Gratitude 2011
November 27, 2011
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Here in San Rafael City Schools we have much to be thankful and grateful. For 150 years, we have enjoyed continued support from our local community.
Creating an all inclusive list of all those deserving recognition and respect is a daunting task - I don't want to risk leaving a person or an organization off our "Honor Roll of Gratitude"
Each individual school benefits from engaged families and their site level PTA or PTO. District wide, our public education foundation HeadsUp fund and support programs at every K-12 school. HeadsUp ensures that each student in our district share common experiences, regardless of where the school is located. Our 4th and 5th grade instrumental music program, the WEB program in our middle schools, and Link Crew in our high schools are just examples of HeadsUp equitable funding focus.
Each day, classrooms and schools are filled with volunteers who give their time to support and help students. On these same days, families and community members are also working on behalf of schools and our students away from our schools. While many parents and supporters have commitments during the day that don't allow them to be "seen" on campus - their contributions are as meaningful as those able to help during the school day.
It is vital we acknowledge those 'unseen" parent and family volunteers as we work with our community to redefine parent involvement and family engagement. Given the competing demands our families face, it is unrealistic for many families to volunteer in the classroom, chaperone on field trips, or coordinate special events in classrooms. These 'traditional' examples of parent involvement must be expanded to reflect the high levels of engagement our families have in the education of their children.
We cannot forget the generous fiscal assistance we receive from families, community organizations, our local business community, foundations and private foundations.
On behalf of San Rafael City Schools, thank you for the individual contribution you make to the students in our district. We truly could not do this work without your support.
Gratefully,
Mike
