Introducing Bahia Vista's New Principal, Emilia El Ammari!
Posted 5/12/21

Dear Bahia Vista Elementary School Community,

I’m thrilled to announce that the San Rafael City Schools Board of Education appointed Ms. Emilia El Ammari as the Principal of Bahia Vista Elementary School! During the extensive and rigorous selection process, it became evident that Ms. El Ammari was the ideal candidate to be Bahia Vista’s next principal -- she is a passionate, resourceful and accomplished educational leader with proven expertise who is relentless in her advocacy and pursuit of equitable outcomes for each and every student.

Here is a special video message from Ms. El Ammari (Spanish video here) for the Bahia Vista community as a way to help introduce herself; I know she greatly looks forward to connecting in person with the students, teachers, staff and families when the time comes! I would like to share some of her own words about why she’s looking forward to this opportunity:

“I am thrilled to join the vibrant Bahia Vista community, whose mission and core values fully align with my own beliefs about how students learn best. I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to work collaboratively with everyone at Bahia Vista to continue to create a positive school climate and culture where all students - and especially those who have suffered from a persistent opportunity gap - can grow academically, socially, and emotionally to reach their fullest potential.”
- Emilia El Ammari, Incoming Bahia Vista Elementary School Principal

Ms. El Ammari comes to SRCS with a strong instructional background, with teaching and school leadership experiences at the elementary level, specializing in working with English learners. For the past 15 years, Ms. El Ammari has served New York City public schools as an English language development teacher, instructional coach and administrator. Most recently, she's played a central role in transforming an elementary school to a thriving, exemplary model that is widely recognized for its success. Ms. El Ammari holds a Master's degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages. She also has a certificate in bilingual/ESL teacher leadership and an advanced certificate in educational leadership and administration. She is proficient in Spanish, but looks forward to learning from you and with you to continue improving!

Ms. El Ammari is known for her high levels of enthusiasm, commitment and compassion, which in turn help produce dramatic results for schools and students. Her wide range of skills include problem solving, communication, organization, professionalism and many others. Ms. El Ammari demonstrates a genuine love for teaching and learning, while at the same time being responsive to the social emotional needs of the entire school community. She is well-respected among her colleagues, and believes in collaboration and partnership building and in the importance of forming trusting and long-lasting relationships with families.

Ms. El Ammari is moving with her husband, three children and parents to San Rafael to live near her only brother and his family. She will officially join SRCS on July 1, 2021, when she’ll take the reins from Ms. Cecilia Pérez, who is becoming the District’s new English Learner Director. Both are committed to working together closely to ensure there is a smooth transition. We are confident that Ms. El Ammari is the ideal leader for Bahia Vista. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming her!
