Introducing Madrone's New Principal, Victoria Martin!
Posted 5/13/21

Dear Madrone High School Community,

I’m thrilled to announce that the San Rafael City Schools Board of Education appointed Ms. Victoria Martin as the Principal of Madrone High School! Ms. Martin emerged as the clear candidate in the selection process that involved several rounds of interviews with students, teachers, staff and administrators. She rose to the top due to her experience and commitment to building a collective vision involving all stakeholders for the purpose of improving academic outcomes and increasing opportunities for social and emotional growth for all students.

Here is a special video message from Ms. Martin for the Madrone community as a way to help introduce herself; I know she greatly looks forward to connecting in person with the students, teachers, staff and families when the time comes! I would like to share some of her own words about why she’s looking forward to this opportunity:

“The students and staff on the interview panel demonstrated a strong passion and dedication for Madrone and that energy alone was enough to make me jump at this opportunity. Moving forward, I am excited to build relationships with Madrone's amazing students and committed staff and partner with the Madrone community to make sure that all of our students are supported and successful.”

- Victoria Martin, Incoming Madrone High School Principal

Ms. Martin has been an educator for nearly a decade, serving a variety of diverse communities. She began her career in education as a resource specialist teacher at El Cerrito High School. She's held a number of school administrator roles in San Leandro Unified School District, most recently as a high school assistant principal. She pursued higher education at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received two Master's degrees in education and completed the Principal Leadership Institute.

Ms. Martin is an enthusiastic and dedicated instructional leader who leads with her heart and is guided by what is best for students. She wholly believes in nurturing positive relationships with students, teachers and families, and in building a high functioning and nurturing and welcoming school environment. She is a well-respected team player who works collaboratively with teachers and staff. Furthermore, she has a diverse skill-set that make her an ideal fit for an alternative high school - she is known to be equity focused with a particular passion for advocating for, connecting with and supporting students who struggle academically.

Ms. Martin will officially join SRCS as Madrone’s principal on July 1, 2021. To ensure there is a smooth transition, she’ll work closely with Kevin Kerr, who has decided to return to teaching at Terra Linda High School after over 20 years as a site and district administrator. We are grateful for Kevin’s many contributions to the Madrone community, and are glad that he will remain in SRCS as a teacher.

I strongly feel that Ms. Martin is going to be a valuable asset to Madrone High School and the entire District. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming her!
