    Superintendent Diaz Ghysels began her tenure as the Superintendent of SRCS at the start of the 2023-24 school year. In the Spring of 2023, the SRCS Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Carmen Diaz Ghysels as the District’s next superintendent.

    A longtime educator of 38 years with deep experience, Ms. Diaz Ghysels is known as an authentic and collaborative leader with a relentless belief that all students can learn and thrive. Prior to SRCS, she was the superintendent of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, where she led the district of approximately 4,200 students for the three years. 

    As a student-centered visionary, Ms. Diaz Ghysels is committed to closing the opportunity gap. She leads with a warm, inclusive approach with a focus on building strong community relationships and engaging teachers and students. She has earned a reputation for guiding well-performing teams and nurturing staff at all levels. Her leadership skills include highly-effective communication; courageous and transparent decision-making; and demonstrating ownership, accountability and enthusiasm in undertaking initiatives and challenges. Ms. Ghysels has a proven track record of success as an instructional leader, and in particular, has exceptional experience and skills in instructional technology. Above all, her love for serving students and her investment in their success is evident in all she does.

    Prior to Tahoe Truckee Unified, Ms. Ghysels gained rich, in-depth experience in numerous positions in various diverse schools and districts. She’s served as a bilingual teacher, special education specialist, special day class teacher, instructional coach, principal, special education director, assistant superintendent of human resources, student services and health services, deputy superintendent and now, superintendent. She had long tenures at Mountain View Whisman and Sunnyvale school districts and honed her skills earlier in her career in several districts in the Southwestern United States. She began as a bilingual kindergarten teacher in Houston, Texas. Raised as an English learner, she is fluent in Spanish. Ms. Ghysels graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and she earned a Master's in Instructional and Educational Technology from San Jose State University.

  • Bob Marcucci was appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services in October 2020. Mr. Marcucci provides District-wide leadership in collaboration with Superintendent Hogeboom to develop and implement District policies and initiatives that advance and prioritize the work of SRCS' strategic plan. He oversees the District's business services department, which includes payroll, maintenance and operations, transportation, and food and nutritional services, along with all business-related services.

  • Stephanie KloosStephanie Kloos joined San Rafael City Schools in July 2017, and she is currently the Executive Director of Elementary Education.

  • Cecilia Pérez began as the District’s new English Learner Director in July 2021. Previously, she served as the principal at Bahia Vista Elementary School, where she led the school for nearly seven years. She began her teaching career at Bahia Vista, where she taught for 16 years before becoming the literacy coach at Venetia Valley School in 2013. She then returned to Bahia Vista as principal in 2014. Her strong knowledge and understanding of how to implement effective instructional strategies and systems will support our EL students as they progress towards English proficiency.

    She is a compassionate and inspiring leader who works collaboratively with students, teachers, classified staff and principals to ensure that everyone does their part to make sure our EL students are successful. Furthermore, her strong understanding of how our current District systems and programs work and her existing relationships throughout our SRCS community are invaluable assets.

  • Christina PerrinoChristina Perrino joined SRCS in 2014 and serves as the District's Communications Director. She is responsible for supporting the planning, developing, coordinating and preparing of responsive and transparent communications, programs and systems that support and promote an understanding of the District’s role, objectives, accomplishments and needs. Ms. Perrino partners with and provides responsive communications to the various communities, organizations and neighborhoods within the District.

    Ms. Perrino has experience in strategy development, community relations, marketing, internal communication, social media, publication and web development, media relations, event planning and graphic design. Her communications career began in the nonprofit sector, which triggered her passion for serving mission-driven organizations through strategic and powerful communication. After spending time doing public affairs work at a global public relations agency, Ms. Perrino joined the communications team for a PK-12 public school district in St. Louis. Prior to joining SRCS, she was the Communications Director for a national educational non-profit organization. She received a B.A. in Communications from St. Louis University.
